Maja completed her Midwifery in Germany in 2005. She has worked as a community midwife in Frankfurt, Germany, and as a hospital based midwife in Dublin. She now works as a midwife in Sydney in a Birth Centre and has been a Calmbirth Educator since 2017.
We are so pleased to announce that Maja will be joining our team of Calmbirth Educators and will be teaching the Calmbirth Program at the NSPH starting on the 16th & 23rd June.
“I have worked in a variety of midwifery settings throughout my 15 years in the profession of midwifery and I feel privileged to be a part of midwifery, as well as being a part of a couples pregnancy and birthing journey to becoming parents. I have been teaching Parent Education classes for the past 7 years, including Pregnancy Yoga.
“I am extremely passionate about quality education and with my extensive midwifery practice and experience I see first hand the positive outcomes and effect the Calmbirth program has on couples in a multitude of situations”.
My life in 5 words…Love, Adventure, Compassion, Family and Fun.
The best thing about where I live is…The vibrant mixture of people, food and culture of Sydney’s Inner West.
What I do to relax when I am not working...Put my son on the back of my bike and we cycle along the Cooks river. He loves to look at the birds, the dogs and water.
I can’t live without…Good music and delicious cheese.
The person I admire the most…My mum and her unconditional love, energy, beliefs, resilience and knowledge.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth educator…To create a safe space for couples to connect and learn, to help them through the start of their parenting journey.
If I had to describe my own birth experience in 3 words…Unexpected, emotional and cheese toasties.
The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…Support, music and spoil yourself with amazing toiletries for the best shower in your life, the 1stshower after birth.
My most memorable moment as a Calmbirth educator…Seeing my groups wander off together for lunch and becoming friends.
A favourite quote…“Let choice whisper in your ear and love murmur in your heart. Be ready. Here comes life”. Maya Angelou
If you had to describe how seeing baby being born makes you feel…I feel honoured to be in a profession where I see babies being born every day. No matter how many years and or how many births you attend, each time it’s a wonder and I feel very privileged to be part of this moment.
My next Calmbirth Courses at the NSPH are on:
16th & 23rd June
18th & 25th August
22nd & 29th September
10th & 17th November
