Kath is a Registered Midwife currently working in a large tertiary hospital in Melbourne.
Working with women everyday in a busy Birth Centre, I’ve noticed how a calm environment could influence the birth of a baby and therefore the woman’s experience. After attending a birth with a woman who had attended a Calmbirth workshop, I soon became a Calmbirth Educator.
Kath is a qualified Childbirth Educator and has facilitated both small and large groups within the Bayside Community.
“I firmly believe that birth can be an empowering experience for women. I will guide you and your partner during the Calmbirth workshops and prepare you both for the big day.”
My name is…Kath Cruickshanks.
I work at…A very large Tertiary Hospital and at my Calmbirth studio in Melbourne.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…The incredible part I play in the women and men’s lives, when I meet them in my workshop they are on their way to becoming parents. Seeing the way the Calmbirth workshops helps parents prepare for their new baby’s arrival is truly a privilege.
My life in five words…fun, busy, family, friends love.
What I love most about where I live…Living near the sea I’m not sure I could live anywhere else.
The three essential things you need to take with you into labour are…A great support person, belief and a TENS machine.
What I do to relax when I’m not working is…shoes off and a pinot.
If I had to describe my own birth experience in three words I would describe as…Enduring, incredible and beyond.
My Most memorable moment as a Calmbirth Educator is…The first time I realised that couples trusted me with their birth preparation.
I can’t live without…My husband Ross, without him well…
The person I admire most is…My mum, the kindest and bravest woman you could ever know, I miss her everyday
The best advice I ever got in my life was…Don’t ever react for 24 hours and be kind to yourself.
