Jess Boland is a Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife, IBCLC Lactation Consultant, Postpartum Doula, Calmbirth Educator, Wife and Mother.
“I have always had a passion for working with women, children and families and have spent the last decade gathering knowledge, experience, skills and even more enthusiasm for this field of work. I have had the privilege of supporting numerous couples through pregnancy, birth and beyond working as an MGP midwife for the last 6years. MGP model of care provides birthing couples continuity and a space to fulfil physiological birthing. From this I have witnessed the power of the mind and body and when a woman is able to surrender to this process, the beauty of it all.
“My aim is always to empower women, promote normalcy of birth, provide a safe, calm and private space and support them to believe in themselves, their body, their baby and the process. This offers them the opportunity for a positive and joyful experience no matter how their journey transpires and the community to admire and feel confident and empowered by birth. To change the narrative and culture around pregnancy, birth, postpartum and parenting to one of positivity, confidence and empowerment.
“This led me to the Calmbirth course as it encompasses so many of my own principles and philosophies of education, pregnancy, labour and birth and beyond. I had found the antenatal education program that I could believe in and endorse as it not only teaches couples knowledge and skills, I know work for women through my years as a midwife. Calmbirth is also based in evidenced-based practice and knowledge and is continually being updated to uphold current evidence and practice. I also really appreciated the emphasis on the importance of the partner/support person for the woman and how through this course the couples are provided the tools and space to feel more connected through this process, as this pregnancy birth and parenting is a team effort.”
My name…Jess Boland.
I work…Avon Valley MGP Northam.
My life in five words…Full, Happy, Loved, Chaotic, Funny.
The best thing about where I live...The lifestyle – quiet, relaxed, private, in nature, able to do what we want.
What I do to relax when I’m not working...Go to the movies, chill with my dog, sleep, spend time with my Husband and Daughter.
I can’t live without…Pepsi-max!!
The person or traits I most admire is…Being real and genuine, being open minded, curious, willing to have a go.
What I love most about being a Calmbirth educator...Providing knowledge and skills I believe in and know will benefit the woman and partner to help them connect and provide them with the best birth possible.
The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…A support person you have been able to connect with about your birth intentions and who is there for you!. Your go to comfort measures (mine was my music on my ipod). A decent size water bottle with a straw.
My most memorable moment as Calmbirth® educator…Seeing couples change through the course, from unsure and doubtful to positive and empowered!
If I had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes me feel…It is a moment you don’t want to end, you want to soak in every molecule. The joy, the wonder, the amazement, the relief, the love, all the emotions. I also feel a sense of release as well, as I hold my mind and body so acutely to the situation that once it is done, I can now take a breath and move into the next stage with the mother, baby and partner.
