We are so thrilled to announce our collaboration with a local Birth Photographer, Beth Lindsay from Natural Focus Birth Photography who has supplied us with some of her amazing birth photos for our next Calmbirth campaign. We’ve all heard the saying, “A picture is worth a thousand words”, and in birth photography not only is this saying true but it’s also “worth a thousand different emotions”.
Hi, I’m Beth Lindsay!
I just love supporting families as they welcome their bub earth side and documenting the journey along the way.
Since being invited to capture a friend’s birth nearly two years ago I found my true passion and have been lucky enough to be invited into so many birth spaces and witness so much amazing strength & energy.
Nothing is more special than the power of documentary photography to capture the intimate, joyous & once in a lifetime moment while you bring your gorgeous baby into the world!
.
How my passion for birth photography started…I have always had a passion from birth (I grew up wanting to be a midwife!) but it was in 2020 when a family friend asked if I wanted to capture her homebirth that I fell in love!
Your most memorable birth capture…There are some incredible crowning shots that will never be posted online that I love so much! One is with the dad’s reaction of seeing his first baby crowning and another with bub captured through the midwife’s mirror while being born in the birth pool.
The best things about being a birth photographer…Seeing the emotions and memories my birth images trigger when people go through their galleries! I have had a client mention she has watched her birth slideshow and shared her images with family and friends more than her wedding photos!
The main differences of birth photography at home Vs the hospital setting and when children (siblings are in attendance) …
I haven’t attended a hospital birth with siblings, mainly due to my whole birth photography career has been during a pandemic with restrictions on how many people can be there. The main difference really is the number of hoops people need to jump through to get to birth how they like in a hospital setting and how much strain that puts on people. I have been so lucky to capture as many hospital births as I have over the last few years. Homebirths do have such a special place in my heart! I especially love seeing how Midwives get siblings involved and excited for meeting their new sibling.
My life in five words…Exciting, Beautiful & Exhausting (on call life is no joke ha-ha)
What I do to relax when I’m not taking photos or at a birth…Turning my phone on silent is such a relief when I go off call. I always try to plan things with my godchildren that I usually can’t do them I’m on call and just take a break (it’s rare to be off call though!)
The best thing about where I live…I lived in the middle of Edinburgh for 4 years and since coming back I have just loved how slow and peaceful it can be in the Hawkesbury!
Your favourite photographer (or which photographers inspire you….) My Dad inspires me so much! He has been a photographer for over 35 years and without his guidance I wouldn’t be where I am today.
If you had to describe how seeing a baby born makes you feel…The world just stops for minutes and it’s the most powerful experience.
