Getting to know Calmbirth Educator Tanya Bayliss

Tanya is a Registered Midwife and Registered Nurse with over 25 years experience working as a health professional.

Her passion for educating and supporting women and their partners as they transform into parents for the first, second, third or fourth time, has been inspired by her belief that knowledge and resources are essential for women to create the best experiences for themselves and their families.

“I love seeing how Calmbirth helps to dispel the myths and reduce fear surrounding birth while providing knowledge and trust in the amazing ability of a woman’s mind and body.  Well informed and prepared couples are active participants in their journey and look forward to the birth of their baby with excitement and confidence,” she says.

Many of us dedicate so much time, energy and money into planning and accomplishing major events in our lives – gaining a qualification, getting married or buying a new car or home. Yet we often place the decisions surrounding the most life changing of events, the birth of a baby, into the hands of others. Calmbirth is an investment into your pregnancy and birthing experience and beyond.

I feel very privileged to offer the Calmbirth course to women and their partners in Parkes and the surrounding towns – empowering women and providing couples with the tools for positive birth experiences.

My Name is…Tanya Bayliss.

I work at…the Lachlan Midwifery Group Practice at Parkes Hospital as a Clinical Midwife Specialist.

My life in five words…Family, friends, all things outdoors.

The best thing about where I live is…Fresh air, great community spirit, lots of diverse opportunities for growing children and families, great cafes and coffee.

What I do to relax when I’m not working…I love being outdoors with my family, skiing, reading, cooking cakes, the odd Brown Brothers wine or two and finding the best coffee in which ever town I am visiting.

I can’t live without…Graeme, Zac, Laura, Josephine and Harrison.

The person or traits I most admire is…My mum – she is the most generous, humble and hardworking person I know. My husband is an amazing devoted dad and the best support I could ask for. I have also had the privilege of working with an amazing team of passionate midwives who inspire me every day.

What I love most about being a Calmbirth Educator…Reducing the fear of birth for couples as well as seeing their confidence building when they realise they have the ability to be active participants during their labour and birth

If I had to describe my own birth experiences in 3 words…Intense, rewarding, transforming.

The 3 essential things you need to take with you into labour are…Excitement that you are about to meet your baby, your tools for relaxation, confidence in yourself and your support team no matter how birth unfolds.

My most memorable moment at as Calmbirth® educator…Feedback from my first ever couple ‘we both know there is no way it would have gone as smooth without your Calmbirth training…I trusted my body completely and you made Sam an absolute superstar coach’

A favourite quote…‘I’m not telling you it’s going to be easy – I’m telling you it’s going to be worth it’ (Art Williams).

If you had to describe how seeing a baby being born makes you feel…pure amazement.
